"The track configuration/layout will remain the same. We are doing a 2 inch overlay to the existing course.
We will be doing a lot of work on the curbs replacing some and extending some as well.
We are also doing significant work on the runoff areas all around the track to create even more safe runoff for all who come to Thunderhill."
-Thunderhill General Manager
Well, this is spectacular news. For those who have been around since the track's inception, seeing the improvements over the years is like seeing a child grow up to become an astronaut. I'm especially excited about the improvements to visibility and runoff areas. I know Thunderhill is already reknowned by many to be the safest track in California, and now it's going to get even safer!
Yes sir, Thunderhill is getting repaved, in fact, it's already started. The planets aligned and the SCCA (the club responsible for thunderhill's existence) was the last group to run on the track before it was closed down for 2 weeks of rigorous work. Construction crews tore into it Monday, taking out many of the berms while Ray, Sean and others started working on the runoff areas and painting EVERYTHING white! Turnboxes, K-Walls, Tire-walls, nothing escaped the blast of the white spray-gun.
Here's some pictures of the improvements that are being made (these were all taken monday):
Will Faules contributed the following from his other blog, to help get this started. I'm sure you'll see some original work from Will soon. He spends LOTS of time here.
"There will be another big awning in front of the Main Building just like the existing one. Another 50’by300’ are being added to the skid pad. The main building is being repainted inside as well as redecorated. All racing walls will be repainted and improved. All Turn Worker boxes will be improved. Many hills that create blind spots will be reduced to make fewer blind spots. Much land surrounding the track will be reworked so that there will be even more, safe runoff room than already exists. There will even be a new opportunity for people to advertise and support the track; a new wall for 8’x16’ billboards is being added in a prime viewing area of the track. We are very excited through all of this because Thunderhill Raceway will be an even better place to lap for cars and bikes alike.
The San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America put on a wonderful action packed event all last weekend. The last car came off track at 4:15p.m. And construction crews were working full steam ahead at 4:16p.m. until 10:00p.m. the first night removing old curbing."

New additions to the Thunderhill Blogsite!
Greetings everyone, I'm Geoff Pitts.
I'm here to get this blog off the ground and turn it into a place where you can get the latest news, photos, and commentary on what's going on here at the track.
I'll start off by telling you a little about myself.
I'm a long-time Thunderhill Employee (6 years or so) who's done just about every job there is to do here. I Started around 2002 as a Flagger/Communicator, Maintenance person, and Security guard, and went on to work for the track on the marketing side of things. My first marketing job for the track was in 2004 when I put together a REALLY giant contingency plan for SCCA's Western States Championship. Later, I began selling advertisements for Thunderhill's Annual Publication. Today I am still working as an advertising rep, but my biggest endeavor has been organizing and promoting Thunderhill's (and Nor-Cal's ONLY) monthly skid-pad Drifting events.
During my time as an event Organizer/Promoter I've grown to enjoy writing and photography, so when I heard that the Blogsite still exists, I took it upon myself to turn it into something! I think I'll have a lot to add here, and I'll have the help of Will Faules our newest team member, who is a writer for several other sites.
I sincerely hope you enjoy the media you find here, and I look forward to hearing all of your thoughts and opinions.
...and if you're at the track, find me and say Hi!
